Chamonix, France: Road Trip from Switzerland

Chamonix, France – What I enjoyed most about Switzerland is being just half a tourist. Since I was staying at Rica’s home, I can take my time and change plans with no pressure. I was thinking of exploring the Swiss alps which they said was one of most gorgeous places in that part of the world. But Rica instead planned a drive to Chamonix, France, which is just down the corner from Vevey.

Living in the Philippines, the thought of driving from one country to another was quite foreign to me. It was my first time in Europe after all. And yet there we were, booked for an overnight trip to Chamonix, which is just a 2 hour drive from our house in Vevey.

Chamonix-Mont-Blanc is a resort area near the junction of France, Switzerland and Italy. Mont Blanc means “white mountain” and is the highest summit in the Alps, renowned for activities such as skiing and paragliding.

The thing with Europe is that every time I go to a new place, it makes me feel like I have never been to anything as beautiful in my life. (Or perhaps I was just lucky enough to have chosen the right places to go.)

We stayed at Chalet Hôtel Le Prieuré. . Which looked exactly like it was taken straight out of Pinterest.

It was a 2 and 1/2 bedroom hotel. 1/2 since the last room is partly living and partly sleeping area. So there is a king-sized bed (above), a bunk bed for 2 (below), and then another double bed outside (not pictured).

Then there is this terrace with a view of the alps.

This is what you see from the terrace, although I didn’t believe it at first.

If you’re curious, you can check the hotel here. The room rate is only about PHP6,500 a night.

This is just the gang (sans Rica), enjoying the gorgeous view and the lovely weather.
