Vibram FiveFingers Meets the Beach

Apparently those Vibram FiveFingers I’ve been using is a Sprint – fit for fitness, running and water. I wasn’t particularly fond of it when it was first introduced to me, but I’m really curious as to why a lot of fitness enthusiasts wear them; so lately, I’ve been using them when I can.

First time I wore those gorilla shoes was for a capoeira demo in SMX. It didn’t work pretty well for me because capoeira involves a lot of twists and FiveFingers stick on the floor. I tried using them for crossfit today – worked good; I like the feeling of being semi-barefoot. It makes me feel more natural and animalistic. It will take some getting used to especially if you always have nice cushioned shoes on your feet, but I’m up for it.

I also tried wearing them to Taal last month – come to think of it now, that was such a bad idea. I didn’t do my research at all – the ones I got aren’t meant for trekking. But then that’s done, and I’m lucky to not have to walk then since we rode ponies.

With the amount of money people spend for Vibrams, I really wanted to give them a stress test and see how far they’ll go. So at the beach in Subic last month, I found out its (in)compatibility with saltwater and sand.

These things will protect your soles from all those rocks at the beach, without the discomfort of wearing slippers. They work pretty much like beach sandals – quite comfy too.

The only problem is the sand gets in them so you’ll still want to take them off once in a while. Well, that, and this.

Oh, I didn’t destroy them or anything, but a bit the brand peeled off, and that’s a bit of a turn off for me. I expected more than that for a shoe with that price. But anyway, if I had the choice, I’d want a KSO Trek Sportย – which I can use for trekking –ย or a Speed – just because they’re kinda cute – next time. ๐Ÿ™‚

Here’s to more gorilla shoes travelling the Philippines. ๐Ÿ™‚
