About Page – July 2012

If you are meeting me for the first time, I hope it’s love at first sight. Oh, I could be a little bit weird and crazy sometimes, but what the hell.

They say that what you write (or draw or build or sing or kiss) often reflect who you are. And so in this section, I’m going to tell you a bit about myself – I hope you have a barf bag on hand. If you happen to decide to keep reading after this, please don’t say you haven’t been warned.

1. I have only two types of readers: those with the same last name as I, and those who accidentally click on my blog link on Facebook and Twitter. But I often write as if the world is reading. It is always safe to assume that the world is reading. Just in case.

2. I started this blog less than a year ago, in an effort to document my thoughts and share my (mostly travel) experiences. I write because I like sharing and I’m an extremely talkative individual, both in person and online. If you follow me on Twitter (@vidasioson), you will know what I am talking about. I also do this as a way for me to understand myself. You see, that is not a very easy task.

3. I am often upside down. Deal with it. I don’t complain when you’re always standing up or sitting down like a normal person.

4. I am not drunk. This is a common misconception. While it is true that I’m always red in the face and that I’m always seemingly lost, I am actually sober 99% of the time. Okay, 95%. The other 5% is when the world offers me the opportunity to get a few glasses of Jack Daniel’s.

5. I am in a relationship. With the world, that is. There is always something that I have not seen or done or tasted or experienced. And when I discover such things, it just bugs me forever. Staying in one place in long periods of time is like reading just one page of a book over and over and over. I need to turn the page, dammit.

6. I change my mind. I will not have the same opinion about everything from the beginning til the end of my life. So don’t be surprised if I wrote something yesterday and say something totally contradictory today.

7. I suck. And I could be incredibly stupid and I am incredibly uncomfortable with comfort. To make things worse, I think that at any one point in our lives we have to suck at something. Sucking, for me, means doing something new and outside of your comfort zone. When you’re not doing anything at all in which you suck, then you are playing your game in a level that you are already accustomed to – it defeats the purpose of playing at all. You have to suck at one thing. You have to do things in which you could likely fail, things that would get you sweating and wanting to give up. Because when you stop sucking at that particular thing, it is the only time you will be able to surprise yourself and say no-fucking-way.

8. I love surprises. Which is why I often find myself hopping in my car without a destination in mind, or on a boat to a virgin island, or trekking up a lovely mountain, or zip lining upside down, or trying to pull a sexy pole dance trick (I have yet to succeed in this), or asking silly questions to strangers.

The list of surprises will go on. It will go on. That is why I am here. 🙂

“Whatever you can do or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it!” (This quote was made into a comic by one of my favorite sites: zen pencils)
